The Ausbildung is a work-study vocational training, usually three years long, split between a school and a care facility (hospital, care home). For nursing (Pflegefachfrau, Pflegefachmann), it is the most common route for Cameroonian applicants.
A paid training
You sign a training contract with the facility and are paid throughout the Ausbildung. Pay is set by the contract and rises each year; it usually covers a large share of living costs.
The requirements
- B2-level German, with a certificate. It is the longest step: several months of intensive classes.
- A signed training contract with a facility before applying for the visa.
- Pre-approval from the Federal Employment Agency (Vorabzustimmung), requested with the employer, which speeds up the visa.
- Your diplomas translated: facilities ask for them, then the consulate.
Care experience is not compulsory, but an internship or volunteering clearly strengthens your application.
